It's a new tilde.day and there are more tildes than you can shake a tilde at!

While I spend some time in IRC, I spend more time on the command line tinkering with this or that. If you want to interact with me, it's easiest to shoot me an email [username]@tilde.team. I also run a smaller, slower, quieter pubnix at https://rawtext.club

Some History

Tildes like tilde.team or tilde.town are a modern version of an old style* system called public acccess Unix systems (of course, "Unix", should now be replaced more often with BSD or GNU/Linux). These are sometimes called "pubnixes". I wrote a history and commentary on public access Unix systems, now run as the Public Access Unix History Documentation Project. You are welcome (and encouraged!) to contribute: https://github.com/cwmccabe/pubnixhist

* How old? The first pubnixes were created in 1982, well before Gopher and the WWW.

Pubnix Admin Interviews

As part of the Pubnix History Project, I am interviewing pubnix (including tilde) admins. The interviews are first released on either gopher or gemini servers, but are later transmogrified into html. I will keep links to the html copies here. This list will be updated whenever new interviews are transmogrified.

I announce each new interview on my (low volume) Mastodon account: @cmccabe@mastodon.sdf.org

* Ben Harris, tilde.team (https://tilde.team/~cmccabe/pubnixhist/ben-harris.html)
* Ben Morrison, tilde.institute (https://tilde.team/~cmccabe/pubnixhist/gbmor.html)
* Ryan Sayre, skylab.org (https://cmccabe.sdf.org/pubnixhist/kraptv.html)
* ~sloum, circumlunar.space (gemini://rawtext.club:1965/~cmccabe/pubnixint/sloum.gmi)
* ~independence, blinkenshell.org (gemini://rawtext.club:1965/~cmccabe/pubnixint/independence.txt)
