dozens dreams

things to wear to your wedding

2020-12-05

Although Polly and I are not married, and plan to never be married, we decided to do a kind of reenactment or renewal of our vows for ourselves and for and our friends and family.

We decided to have it at my grandfather’s house. And we were making an entire day out of it, with 2 performances. One midday and one several hours later in the evening in order to accommodate as many different schedules as possible.

Polly had a magnificent lacy vintage gown with a high neck.

I on the other hand completely forget to ever pick up my tux from the tailor. My grandfather found me panicking and pulled out all his old suits and told me to pick one.

I didn’t think it would work because he is both small and thin, whereas I am both large and thick. But against all odds, I was able to piece together a suit that fit pretty well. Blue collared shirt, blue wool vest, blue jacket, blue slacks, and black shoes.

I rushed to the ceremony and arrived right on time.

A high school football team was milling about in the back of the room, drunk and talking and laughing loudly while the ceremony was trying to start. I yelled at them and scolded them and kicked them all out for being disrespectful.

The first ceremony went fine.

Between ceremonies I went and hung out with some friends. I thought I left myself plenty of time, but I found myself once again rushing to get ready in time for the next ceremony.

Back in my grandfather’s room, all of the clothes were still out, and even more had joined them. Every piece of clothing my grandfather had ever owned, plus every piece of clothing I had ever lost. I couldn’t find the suit I had just put together, so I frantically tried to piece another one together. Meanwhile, Devan, one of the drunk jocks from earlier, was there chatting good-naturedly, distracting me something awful.

Finally I shushed Devan and shooed him away and put together a weird suit consisting of a dark shirt and a tanned alligator skin jacket and light shoes.

I rushed out to the hall, this time to find the ceremony already underway. Polly stood in the middle of the aisle and was addressing the crowd, trying to stall. She saw me and flashed her eyes angrily and told me to go put my hair up.
