airship

2020-06-07

We were messing around in the ocean on a huge rocky beach with high walls and loose stone jetties. There was debris and wreckage in the water and on the rocks, and we were working on some kind of salvage ship.

I found some kind of craft that had some kind of an old missile, kind of worn and a little rusty from exposure. It was long and white and narrow and had a wheel mounted at one end.

I turned the wheel and apparently activated the missile. I’m not sure if it was leaking something dangerous at that point, or whether it was primed to explode at any moment, or both, but I decided we needed to move it and dispose of it somewhere more remote.

I loaded up the missile into an airship that was apparently mine, but I only kind of knew how to operate it. It was a large skiff on sleds with a large red balloon and a propeller in the back.

(The airship, I now recognize, is straight out of D&D. It’s the one from the Storm King’s Thunder source book, which in turn is apparently straight from Acquisitions Incorporated.)

Turned on the burner for the balloon and we flew straight up, and then turned on the propeller. Soon we were rocketing through the air and had almost burned through all of our fuel. I scrounged around below deck in the cargo hold for more fuel and almost didn’t find any, but then found a cache of small two ounce tincture bottles marked, helpfully “Fuel.”

Back in the engine room there was a small canister for loading the tincture bottles into, kind of like a pneumatic tube like at the bank drive through. Except it didn’t go anywhere, it just unloaded the honey colored liquid there with a syringe that punctured the membrane, and the canister slid open again and ejected the empty bottle.

I loaded in two and that seemed more than enough to top us off.

At this point we were flying over the thick canopy of a hilly forest. Because of the extreme hills, the forest kept rising up toward us and then sinking back down below. The rolling forest zoomed past beneath us, and once we reached some previously decided upon remote area of the wood, we unloosed the missile from where it was lashed to the side of the airship and let it fall.
