paperwork and dinosaurs

I was out somewhere and was surprised by a bunch of buddies I hadn’t seen in a long time. It was already late at night, and I was already running behind, but I decided to stay out with them and have a round of drinks to catch up and celebrate our reunion.

I texted Kate to let her know I was staying out and she texted back that she was waiting on me to get home because we had “homework” to do together.

I wrapped up and got home and found that she needed me to fill out some kind of financial disclosure form so we could move.

I started filling out the form, but every time I looked at it, the little boxes I had to fill out grew in number and crowded and crawled around the edges of the paper in fractal patterns. Each time I thought I was done, there were more tiny boxes that hadn’t been there before.

I was a little sidekick of Link and we were adventuring in a strange landscape that had little streams of water, a dusting of snow on red stone. We seemed to know we were in a video game.

I discovered I could jump way too high, and gleefully, needlessly jumped over the little streams that could be stepped over, rocketing high into the air and then floating easily back down to the ground. I carried on, tickled with myself and trying to get Link to notice and laugh.

We proceeded through a different area and up ahead, rising up against the black sky, was what looked like a huge green dragon. I balked and said we couldn’t go on. Link assured me it couldn’t be a dragon because we were too low level to take on a dragon on our own. The game wouldn’t throw a dragon at us without at least the princess here to act as a healer. As he said this, the “dragon” started moving jerkily and looked more fake, more animatronic, and started to look more like an orange t-rex than a green dragon.

As Link approached, it shot forward and head-butted him off to the right through a chute. I ran forward and it did the same to me, and I found myself in a narrow hallway lined with closed doors. I ran into and out of the doors, scooby-doo style, until I caught the attention of a bouncer, who chased me around a while.
