dozens dreams

nephew

My little brother, who is getting married this fall, shared a video with me that his girlfriend had just given birth, and that he was a dad, and that I am an uncle!

The little kid had tons of hair on his head. Both my brother and my dad have very curly hair, and this kid apparently took after them.

After watching the video, the first thing I did was call my grandmother, which is something I think that I have never even done in real life. I was going to tell her about the baby, and that she is a great-grandmother, but my brother party-lined in and told her first, which is cool because it’s his baby and his news.

Then I was at their place, and the baby had grown quite a bit and now had a huge fro, and was giggling and laughing and just super happy.

Then there were all these weird shadow demons that kept appearing at the front door and coming in. Some were humanoid in shape, others looked like huge dogs with eyes as big as saucers.

I was able to use magic to get rid of them whenever they showed up, but they just kept coming. So I turned my attention to the doorway itself. There was some kind of an invisible portal there, but it only worked one way: the demons could pass through it and arrive here, but if I touched it or tried to go through it, it would annihilate me. So we were all effectively trapped in the house while these things kept coming.

So I had to carefully try to dispel it and then check whether it was still there.

I eventually got rid of the portal and went outside, and one last shadow, humanoid, was wandering around the front yard. I tried to banish this one as I did the previous ones, but it was stronger, and resistant to my magic. We dueled back and forth for a while, and it was quickly apparent that I would lose.

Commentary:

My brother is getting married in the fall. I don’t think they are giving much thought or consideration to the fact that this will be in the middle of the second spike of coronavirus, and that me attending will require going through airports and being on an airplane. I’m reasonably confident that I’m not going to go unless several things happen, such as us getting vaccines and him issuing actual guidelines for the ceremony and reception. e.g. are we all going to wear masks? Will the groomsmen be six feet apart, or up at the front at all? Will we be seated at dinner six feet apart?

My two biggest fears are that:

  1. Somebody will get sick and die from going to this wedding. Probably an older person in one of our families, and

  2. If I don’t go, it will damage my relationship with my brother and with the rest of my family. I wouldn’t, for example, want to not be part of my little nephew’s life.
