to catch a fairy

2020-09-19

I was trying to catch a fairy with a butterfly net.

Once or twice, I caught it, but then it started shaking, darting, and jerking so violently that it tore the net, or ripped the whole thing out of my hands, and got away.

I realized that fairy problems require fairy solutions. So I changed tactics and went looking for a magic item that would help me: a large ceramic looking ring too large for a finger but too small for a wrist.

It was no special place. You just have to walk around looking for it in the grass.

And you can’t pick it up unless you have a special loop to hook it with. Which I had.

So I walked around until I found a ring sticking up from the grass. I opened up my loop, hooked the ring, scooped it up and closed the loop. The ring started vibrating and sliding along the look, and it started to resonate with a gold ring I was wearing on a finger on my left hand. My gold ring started vibrating painfully and tried to get into the loop to join the ceramic ring.

Eventually the sensation became too much and I opened the loop and tossed the cermic ring away.

I had just figured out a way to place my gold ring just to the left of the bottom of the loop in such a way that if I hooked another ceramic ring and let it fall just to the right of the bottom of the loop, then I could tilt the loop in such a way that would control their vibrations and allow them to slowly slide up to the top of the loop. It should give me just enough time to transport the ceramic ring to where I need it before the rings actually collided at the top.
