twins

2020-06-19

We had just moved into this new house. I wasn’t familiar with it, with the layout, with how there’s carpet everywhere.

We had gotten a new puppy who looked like a tiny floppy german shepherd kind of dog. He was the runt of his litter, a small thing. All of the rest of his litter had been adopted and he was the only one left. He never really did much of anything but lay around on the ground and spread out in a pool, seeming to flatten and increase his surface area so that he looked like a rug.

Some time passes and now we are also fostering an infant. He was a twin, but the twins were separated for some reason. I think somebody else was fostering the other twin.

The baby would cry and cry because it missed its twin so much. One time I was hanging out with the baby on the bed, and I got up to go to the bathroom to wash something off my hands. I could still see the baby from where I was, but as soon as I got up it started crying, and somebody called to complain that there was a baby crying, which made me angry.

I learned that if I put the puppy and the baby next to each other, they would both take comfort in each other and stop crying and be happy.

But unfortunately, I guess because of the phone complaint, we had already attracted the attention of the Harrow Sisters, who are two ghostly twins who haunt you by sucking your souls out from the bottoms of your feet. This is not quite fatal, but does leave you in a small shriveled state like the poor unfortunate souls from The Little Mermaid.

They didn’t have any names, just Long Sister Harrow and Short Sister Harrow. The former was a little bit tall and the latter was a little bit short. They both had black hair with matching haircuts: a short bob with bangs.

They set up chairs at the foot of the bed and prepared to do some soul sucking as soon as I laid down with my feet toward them.

I showed them the baby and the puppy and how they had adopted the other as their new twin / litter mate, and were quite happy now, and made an appeal to their own twinhood. They considered, and consented, and left without taking any souls.

Meanwhile, the puppy, although perfectly normal in every other way, had turned shock white, and seemed to not really have any flesh, but just a thin translucent membrane encasing its organs, held in place by its bones. He looked like one of those spring rolls, the kind made with translucent rice paper. He still didn’t move around or do that much, but loved getting pets and belly rubs, which I would give him since he liked it so much, even though it was kind of gross and made me nervous about hurting him. He seemed quite sturdy though.
