I was in a crowd of people and it was decided that in order to settle some kind of dispute me and this kid would have to fight. He was small, half my size, but was unnervingly, unflinchingly not afraid.

A circle opened up and he asked me to decide the winner. KO? TKO? Tapout? I said KO or tapout. We both stripped down to out underwear and stepped into the circle.

My years of practice came back to me, and I rushed in for a grapple and a take down. He was surprisingly strong, but I got a solid grip on his arm, snaked around behind him and got him into a half, hooked his leg and worked him onto his back and held him in a solid pin.

He stopped and held still and waited. I waited for somebody to call the match since I obviously had him pinned but nobody did. And he whispered, You said KO or tapout. I’m not tapping out and I’m not knocked out.

Commentary: If you have the luxury to decide the conditions of a situation, make sure you understand the conditions and pick ones that favor you, that you can atually do.
