boardgame

2020-08-25

I was playing some kind of board game with 3 older women. It was a four player game, one player sitting at each side of the board. It used dice as game pieces and to determine rolls. The board was very simple, a single track around the edge of the board. In fact the board had no center: it was just a single hoop.

The squares were ornate and colorful, kind of like mah jong tiles. Each side was 4 - 7 squares long, and each square had a ton of effects. Some local to the piece that landed on it, some effected any pieces opposite it on the track. e.g.Ā there were a couple squares on the left that had little pistols on them. If you landed on them, then you ā€œshotā€ the pieces opposite you for a number of points. There were common game effects like skip a turn, roll again, etc.

Iā€™m not sure how you won the game, but I know you got out if you got to 25,000 ā€œpointsā€ which I managed to do in my first turn, which involved getting to roll a total of three times before finally landing on a particularly nasty square in the bottom left that applied a large multiplier to any accumulated points. I groaned, and the old ladies clapped and laughed, delighted at my beginners folly.

I realized later that I could have born on another piece and split my movement up between the two pieces instead.
